Tamil Nadu: Six policemen arrested in connection with custodial death of Vignesh


Six policemen have been arrested by the Crime Branch-CID police on Saturday in reference to the custodial death of V Vignesh final month, stated police sources.

Initially, a case of suspicious demise was registered following the demise of Vignesh. Later after an post-mortem report, which indicated 13 accidents on the physique of Vignesh who died on April 19, the case was altered to that of homicide.

Sources within the CB-CID confirmed the arrest of the six, together with a house guard. They stated the six have been produced earlier than a courtroom right here and remanded. Two of them were arrested on Friday whereas 4 others have been arrested at the moment.

On April 18, two younger males – Vignesh and Suresh – have been detained by the police right here throughout a vehicle-check, and ganja and liquor bottles have been seized from the autorickshaw the duo was travelling in. They have been taken to the Secretariat Colony police station and the next day Vignesh developed seizures after breakfast and the docs declared him as “brought dead.” A police sub-inspector, a constable and a member of the Home Guards have been suspended and probe was initially into suspicious demise of the suspect. The case was handed over to the CB-CID following an outcry towards custodial deaths.

Arun Halder, vice-chairman of the National Commission of Scheduled Castes, (NCSC), who carried out an inquiry on Wednesday into the demise of Vignesh, had stated the Prevention of Atrocity Act was subsequently added.
